Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing take a moment to reflect on the events of Sept. 11, 2001 during the 10-year anniversary of the attacks. "I was sitting in my dining room working on a paper, I was in college," said Tech. Sgt. Arnold Villarreal with the 433rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "I am in awe of what happened when the first plane hit," he said. " I stopped what I was working on for school when I saw the second plane hit." The events of that day solidified for him the reason there is an Air Force Reserve. "That's the reason we're here -- we're more active in the mission, I have satisfaction (Usama) bin Laden is gone," he said. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Brian McGloin)

Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing take a moment to reflect on the events of Sept. 11, 2001 during the 10-year anniversary of the attacks. "I was in my last year of college and they started dismissing everyone. We saw in the news something hit the towers," said Senior Airman Nicholas Pacheco, 433rd Maintenance Squadron. "I was in shock, I didn't know what it was, what was going on," he said. Looking at it now, he has a realistic but upbeat view on how far the country has come since that day. "It seems like we recovered well," he said. "We got the people in charge, but still lots of families trying to recover." (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Brian McGloin)

Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing take a moment to reflect on the events of Sept. 11, 2001 during the 10-year anniversary of the attacks. "I was right here in the shop," said Tech. Sgt. Salome Dominguez, from the 433rd Maintenance Squadron. "The first thing I thought was a Piper hit the World Trade Center," he said. "We went to the break room and they had it on TV, then I heard about the Pentagon. I knew we were under attack." After 10 years, Sergeant Dominguez hasn't forgotten about that morning. "I think about it all the time. I compare it to Pearl Harbor. One should never be at ease -- but that's my opinion -- no one ever expects it." (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Brian McGloin)

Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing take a moment to reflect on the events of Sept. 11, 2001 during the 10-year anniversary of the attacks. "I worked on an agricultural farm in West Texas. I managed the diesel engines that ran the irrigation pivots. I went back to the house to get some water when I saw it on TV," said Tech. Sgt. Shallyn Troutman, 433rd Maintenance Squadron. She said she wasn't sure if state borders or roads would be closed. "I was scared because my husband was out of state and wouldn't be able to get back," she said. In the decade since the attacks, Sergeant Troutman said she hasn't had time to reflect on it yet. "I'm sad we're still at war," she said. "I never had any idea it would be this long."
