REDHORSE Returns
About 110 Airmen from the 556th REDHORSE Squadron returned from deployment on Sunday, October 12, 2008. When the Reserve Airmen arrived home, about 300 friends, family and unit members were there to welcome them with hugs and hand-made banners. REDHORSE is an acronym for Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers. The REDHORSE Airmen deployed to three different countries within the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility. During the deployment, they dug wells for Afghanis, repaired existing structures in Iraq and supported base construction and repair needs throughout the AOR. The 556th REDHORSE Squadron is due to relocate to Florida later this year but many of the Reservists will remain at Lackland Air Force Base as new members of the 433rd Civil Engineer Squadron. Welcome Home
After six months in Afghanistan, member of the 433rd Civil Engineer Squadron returned home on Sept 22, 2008. Family and friends met them at San Antonio Airport with banners, cheers and even a few happy tears were shed during the reunion. The Alamo Wing engineers spent their deployment building and repairing structures at Bagram Airfield and several forward operating locations. They installed air conditioning units for Soldiers, brought older buildings up to U.S. Military construction codes and built brand new facilities. The group joined up with members of the Niagara Falls Air Force Reserve unit to create the first Prime BEEF, or Prime Base Emergency Engineer Force, team to operate in the country in almost two years.
