A San Antonio youth and his family will receive the “star” treatment as an honorary pilot and tour the unit here Sept. 8.

The youth, Giovanny Gallegos, was chosen by The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio to be the 433rd Airlift Wing’s third Pilot-for-a-Day. Gallegos is battling high-risk leukemia.

The program will provide a child with a life-threatening or chronic illness and who is between the ages of 8 and 14, the opportunity to visit the 433rd AW. Pilot-for-a-Day allows our community partner, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, to gain awareness of our important military mission. In addition, our military members will learn more about the mission of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

Pilot-for-a-Day is an important community liaison program that builds public support and trust in the United States Air Force, while providing a child with a unique day of activities. The Pilot-for-a-Day program fosters long-lasting relationships and partnerships between the community and the Air Force Reserve.
