Secretary of Defense James Mattis delivers remarks during the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) change of command ceremony. Adm. Phil Davidson relieved Adm. Harry Harris as commander of USPACOM. During Mattis’ remarks, he stated the title of U.S. Pacific Command would change to the newly named U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. USPACOM is committed to enhancing stability in the Indo-Pacific region by promoting security cooperation, encouraging peaceful development, responding to contingencies, deterring aggression, and, when necessary, fighting to win.
