Family Day at the Alamo Wing

Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing gathered on the Saturday of a combined unit training assembly to celebrate the support of their families during the 2010 Family Day. The event was open to family members of Alamo Wing reservists and featured games, carnival style food and motorcycle and car shows. Capt. Phil Cortez accepts a "Buddy Poppy" from a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Buddy Poppy became a symbol of the VFW's motto, "We honor the dead by helping the living." The poppies were made famous in a the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae. The red poppies handed out are reminiscent of the poppies growing in the battlefields of WWI.
