MSGT masters the heat and sets positive example for volunteerism at Oyster Bake 2011
Master Sgt. Joe Kelley, 68th Airlift Squadron first sergeant, prepares a large grill for another batch of hamburger patties by shuffling the hot coals with a shovel during this year’s Oyster Bake, which took place April 9, 2011. Sergeant Kelley was one of several members from the Alamo Wing that volunteered during day two of Oyster Bake 2011 at Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio. The senior NCO donated approximately 14 hours of his personal time at a burger booth where service members, civilians and military family members from the Alamo Wing volunteered to raise money during Fiesta 2011.Service members, civilians and military family members from the Alamo Wing volunteered to operate a burger booth and raise money during Fiesta 2011. Fiesta is an annual city-wide multi-day, multi-event period designed to raise money for charitable causes. Oyster Bake is one of the multiple events which raises money for charity and promotes cultural awareness and appreciation by incorporating transcendental elements such as food, music and art in a family-friendly environment.
