Ms. Daizha Gallos, a student at the University of Texas' San Antonio campus, and Senior Airman Bernadette Hernandez, each received a scholarship from the Alamo Wing's Hispanic Heritage Committee on September 15 at the annual Alamo Wing Hispanic Heritage Committee scholarship awards luncheon.
Ms. Gallos is the daughter of Tech. Sgt. Larry Gallos, a member of the 433rd Maintenance Operations Squadron. Senior Airman Bernadette Hernandez is a member of the 433rd Medical Squadron who was not able to attend the award luncheon.
Each year the Alamo Wing's Hispanic Heritage Committee awards two scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to college bound students of the 433rd Airlift Wing or their college bound family members after submitting an application.
Although competition can be tough, the application submitted by Ms. Gallos placed her at the top of the list quickly.
"Ms. Daizha Gallos is a well rounded student," said Chief Master Sergeant Gilbert T. Cuellar, the committee chairperson. "Ms.Gallo is very focused on her academics as well as her future goals. With her drive and ambition for her goals in life, the AW-HHC committee's decision was unanimous in making her one of our two Scholarship recipients."
This year's recipients also got a little extra congratulatory gift from the committee recognizing their drive and current accomplishments.
"We not only gave the recipients a $500.00 scholarship, but we also gave them each a beautiful, special pen with their name engraved on it," said Chief Cuellar.
The next opportunity to apply for a scholarship from the 433rd AW Hispanic Heritage Committee begins in July of 2007.
The HHC is one of several organizations within the 433rd Airlift Wing that contribute to educational goals, do volunteer work and donate to charitable organizations on Lackland AFB and in the surrounding community.
