A C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft was commandeered by a disgruntled Airman during an anti-hijacking exercise Oct. 5 at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. The 433rd Airlift Wing hosted the 502nd Air Base Wing and 59th Medical Wing during the joint exercise. The flight line and surrounding buildings were abuzz with activity as emergency service personnel defused the intense situation.

“This is a requirement to train and assess our procedures and prevent aircraft piracy” said Lt.Col. Frederick McMahon, 433rd AW inspection chief, “We practice and learn from our mistakes so we can keep improving our training and procedures each time.”

The exercise concluded with a mock press conference allowing commanders the opportunity to get practice fielding questions from the media in the event of a real-world scenario.
