'Alamo Wing' welcomes MacDill civic leaders

The 433rd Airlift Wing here hosted more than two dozen civic leaders, community partners and honorary commanders from the 927th Air Refueling Wing, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, March 19-20. On a two-day educational tour of the Alamo Wing, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, and the City of San Antonio.

The purpose of civic leader tours is to increase public awareness of the Air Force Reserve, their mission, policies and programs, and to build relationships with members of the local community and encourage those members to share the Air Force story.

"This is going to be a great experience for you all," said Captain Joseph Simms, 927th ARW, public affairs officer. "Over the next 48 hours, you will gain an understanding of the vital role that reservists play in the defense of our country."

The first day of the tour started with  a mission brief of the 433rd Airlift Wing and a welcoming social reception with the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Richard Perez, President and CEO; Will Garrett, Vice President Economic Development and Chuck Bunch, Military Affairs Committee welcomed the group.

Col. Randall L. Bright, commander 927th ARW presented Perez with a small token of appreciation during the social. "It's our honor to come to San Antonio; Thank you for making us feel welcome," said Bright.

Friday, the last day of the tour civic leaders received a tour of a C-5A Galaxy aircraft and a guided tour of the 733rd Training Squadron. The 733rd TRS provides administrative, managerial and operational support for approximately 700 C-5A aircrew students annually. The tour concluded with lunch.
