Food, shelter, clothing and medicine are basic needs for everyone. But sometimes, fate or bad luck strike and these necessities can become hard to come by for some people.

How can you as a federal employee help? You can participate in the Combined Federal Campaign at the 433rd Airlift Wing. The CFC runs from Sept. 1 through Dec. 15, and federal employees can help others get by donating to approved organizations. Anyone in the wing can donate- Air Reserve Technicians, Traditional Reservists or Department of Defense civilians.

"Our goal is 100 percent contact to get awareness of the CFC," Tech. Sgt. Fabian Robinson, 433rd AW's CFC representative, said. "When we get the right information in front of the right people, the contributions will add up," he said.  "We want to get everybody from the Wing involved," he said.

"There isn't a monetary goal to surpass," he said. Last year's CFC donations from the Alamo Wing totaled a little less than $11,000.

There are over 100 local charities, more than 200 national and international charities which benefit from the contributions according to Robinson.  For example, charities range from medical research, spay and neutering of pets, disaster relief and charities with low overhead costs.

Traditional reservists can donate online, while Air Reserve Technicians and Department of Defense civilians can use payroll deduction to contribute he said.

"The majority of our potential donors are made up of junior enlisted and non-commissioned officers," Robinson said.  "Small cash donations add up.  Think about it, if everybody gave a few dollars, those small contributions can have a great impact. You're gonna make someone's day, month, week or even year that much better," he said.

The CFC began in the early 1960s to coordinate the fundraising efforts of various charitable organizations so that the Federal donor would only be solicited once in the workplace and have the opportunity to make charitable contributions through payroll deduction according to the CFC San Antonio website.

"One person donation won't change the world, but everybody donating together will help a great deal," Robinson said.
