Military members preparing to transition from military service to civilian life have an opportunity Aug. 3-4 to boost their post-service careers by attending the Hiring Our Heroes JBSA Career Summit.

“Preparing to transition from the military is not an easy process, but events like this can help military members get a jump start on their career transition as they return to the private sector,” said Serafina De Los Santos, executive director of the 502nd Force Support Group.

During the event, there will be networking opportunities and a chance to meet with military-ready companies actively hiring for open positions across a wide variety of industries locally and nationwide.

There will also be sessions where participants can hone their skills in interviewing and salary negotiations, as well as informational sessions providing insider tips presented by hiring managers and recruiters.

Program specialists from Joint Base San Antonio SkillBridge and Career Skills Programs will also be available to explain those programs in detail.

“The transition programs JBSA offers, SkillBridge and the Career Skills Program, are excellent opportunities to learn skills in a civilian environment, greatly improving job opportunities for service members exiting military service,” said Jose Ontiveros, JBSA’s SkillBridge manager. “Separating service members are eligible to apply for these programs six months before their separation date and are able to attain these skills during their duty hours, with leadership approval.”

Coordinators of the event expect 70 plus employers to attend, offering thousands of open positions to qualified applicants.

“The goal is to link the right talent at the right time,” De Los Santos said.
