Air Force Leaders issue Juneteenth 2022 message Published June 16, 2022 Washington -- Airmen and Guardians, Juneteenth is a day of profound weight and power to recognize both the moral stain of slavery and remind us of our incredible capacity to persevere, heal, and progress. While this is only the second year Juneteenth has been celebrated as a federal holiday, its historical significance and celebrations date back over 150 years. We encourage all of you to reflect on the magnitude of this holiday by learning about its origin in 1865 along with its long journey to federal recognition. This holiday represents an opportunity to celebrate decades of hope and courage. We appreciate the crucial conversations occurring across the Department and recognize there is more work required to ensure justice, equality, and inclusion. As always, we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Thank you for all you do to keep us safe and to allow our Nation to continue improving. One Team, One Fight!
