‘Basic’ docuseries goes behind the scenes at USAF BMT beginning Oct. 28 Published Nov. 4, 2021 Air Force Recruiting Service JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas (AFNS) -- An unprecedented look behind the scenes at U.S. Air Force basic military training located here will be available to the public through a docuseries on the Air Force Recruiting Service’s YouTube channel began Oct. 28. “Basic” presents the unique perspective of five enlistees from various parts of the country as they navigate the ups and downs of BMT beginning in October 2019. “From a recruiter’s first meeting with a future Airman or Guardian, their initial questions always seem to be about what they can expect at BMT,” said Maj. Gen. Ed Thomas, AFRS commander. “Today's BMT isn't what mom or dad went through decades ago and it’s not necessarily what Hollywood portrays.” The series was created through a collaboration by the U.S. Air Force Recruiting Service, 37th Training Wing, 3rd Audiovisual Squadron, and the United States Air Force Band of the West. With the exception of Nov. 25, eight weekly episodes will run Thursdays beginning Oct. 28 and continuing through Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. central time. Run time for each episode is between 37 and 43 minutes. “The Air Force is granting access to BMT as it happened for brand new Airmen. This series aims to shine a light on the reality and professionalism of basic training. We want future Airmen and future Guardians to know what to expect when they make decisions and prepare for this uncommon life,” Thomas said.
