In an assumption of command ceremony here Sept. 10, Col. James “JC” Miller, 433rd Operations Group commander, passed the 733rd Training Squadron’s guidon to Lt. Col Steven Radtke, signifying the transfer of command.

Prior to this assignment, Radtke was the 356th Training Squadron’s commander. This marks Radtke’s return to the squadron where he was previously assigned as the student flight commander from May 2011 to Oct 2012.

Before handing off the guidon, Miller shared comments about his choice to hire Radtke.

“One of the things that impressed me most about Steve, is he always goes back to the basic thing, which is taking care of the students,” said Miller. “Making sure we don’t cut corners and we don’t unnecessarily expose them to risk. I’m really impressed by that.”

After accepting command of the unit, Radkte spoke to the audience about his priorities for the squadron.

“Taking care of people, taking care of their careers, and taking care of their families… in this case taking care of the students to make sure they get good training here; that starts with taking care of the basics,” said Radtke. “We are here to serve the students, and I am here to serve you.”
