433rd Airlift Wing members can submit questions to the command chief through the Air Force Connect app.

Here is the answer to a question about Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s Coronavirus quarantine.

Ask the Command Chief:

Question: I am seeing that Lackland is hosting a quarantine zone for the corona virus victims. It said they will be staying at lodging. What’s being done to keep them quarantined? I don’t want to come in for the UTA and have to room next to someone with the virus. This seems very unsafe and reckless by the Air Force to do this to its members.

Answer: Sir/Ma’am,

Col. McClain and I both appreciate you using the app email to ask questions. I hope the information below answers the many questions/concerns we know a lot of people have.

As you can imagine, we are working closely with all of the Joint Base San Antonio community to ensure our Airman and families are safe. Here is a little bit of information we did receive from the 502nd Air Base Wing Installation Support Group commander, Col. Thompson:

JBSA will only provide lodging. Incoming passengers will be housed at both the Gateway Inn and the Gateway Villa. They will be housed in buildings which are separate buildings from other lodging residents, and they will not have access to any base location other than their assigned lodging. Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) representatives will be responsible for all care, transportation, and security of the personnel. In accordance with CDC guidelines, all incoming passengers will be monitored for a period of 14 days, and Department of Defense personnel will not be directly in contact with the passengers or their lodging rooms.

We (433rd Airlift Wing leadership) have been monitoring this website for the most up to date information - https://www.jbsa.mil/Information/CDC-Novel-Coronavirus-Response-Support/

There will be a Town Hall meeting Feb. 5, 2020 at 5 p.m. at the Gateway club. We are being told that The Town Hall meeting is scheduled to be live on the Joint Base San Antonio Facebook page.

We are actively working with the 502nd ABW to ensure there are enough rooms on base for our members (away from quarantined area). Processes are already in place to move members off base IF we find there is shortage of rooms on base. Please work closely with your squadron lodging monitor for a changes.

Our Public Affairs office is also available for any questions you might have, they are the front line communication for us. Their number is 210-925-5194.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Again … our Airman are our #1 priority, but supporting our nation’s call and assisting other Americans in their time of need is what we signed up for.

Thanks,

Chief Cullum
