Wing holds commander’s calls, enlisted calls Published Jan. 16, 2020 By Staff Sgt. Lauren M. Snyder 433rd Airlift Wing JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- Members of the 433rd Airlift Wing assembled for commander’s calls at the Bob Hope Theater and the 433rd Medical Group Jan. 11-12. Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Theodore C. Nicholson, 433rd AW wing chaplain, started the meeting by linking New Year resolutions with lasting improved actions and identity through spiritual strength. Lt. Col. India Nicholson, 433rd AW deputy staff judge advocate, warned of the hazards of CBD (cannabidiol) and hemp products. “It’s in the best interest to steer away from these products all together,” Nicholson said. “When the (Federal Drug Administration) tested CBD amounts in these drugs and products, they found 69 percent exceeded their labels. Some even had THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) in them. Ignorance of the law doesn’t excuse you.” Her examples, requiring caution, included popular yogurt and granola bars, which caused drug test failure, as those products didn’t advertise their hemp or CBD content. Next, the Combined Federal Campaign was represented by Beth Diertert, lead outreach coordinator/communications manager. The CFC gives federal employees opportunity to financially support nonprofit charitable organizations through one-time or monthly donations. Maj. Samuel P. McAnally, 433rd AW chief of safety, focused on risk management. Exercise readiness received attention from Lt. Col. James A. Hearn III, 433rd Mission Support Group deputy commander. Lt. Deshunn L. Barnes extolled the benefits of the Yellow Ribbon Program, which facilitates training and recreational events for pre- and post-deployment Reserve Citizen Airmen and their families. The recruiting team encouraged advocating the military and encouraging joining. They handed out swag to several members in the audience who directly influenced individuals to enlist. Finally, Col. Terry W. McClain, 433rd AW commander, focused on readiness factors and revealed the wing mission statement: “Provide Combat Ready Citizen Airmen Anywhere, Anytime.” “To quote Gen. Goldfein, we’re not going to beat (our enemies) with just technology. We need to use our greatest resource, which is you—our Airmen,” McClain said. “That’s why we need to get you ready.” The commander’s calls were immediately followed by an enlisted call with Chief Master Sgt. Shana C. Cullum, 433rd AW command chief.
