Alamo Wing Family Day scheduled for October UTA Published Aug. 3, 2012 By Senior Airman Brian McGloin 433rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The 433rd Airlift Wing Family Day is scheduled to take place during the Saturday of the October unit training assembly in the fuel systems repair shop hangar. After a hiatus in 2011, Family Day returns with food vendors, games, aircraft displays and other fun for children and adults alike. Before Family Day begins, members of JBSA-Lackland's motorcycle community will meet at the 802nd Mission Support Group Command building parking lot at 10 a.m. After a safety briefing, the group will head out for a short ride around the base, ending the wash rack next to the fuel cell to join classic cars already on display. The ride is scheduled to stop briefly in front of a C-5A Galaxy cargo aircraft on static display for a group photo. An F-15 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft is also scheduled to be on display next to the C-5. A DJ is slated to spin classic rock and oldies during the car and motorcycle show. After the motorcycles are in place, Col. Jeffrey Pennington, commander, 433rd Airlift Wing, will deliver his commencement address officially beginning the event. Food booths will line the area between the aircraft and the fuel cell building, selling everything from turkey legs to confections. A limited amount of hot dogs will be available free of charge while water, iced tea and other beverages will be available as well. Local businesses and community groups will be represented with booths, children's workshops and information in one side of the fuel cell, while a stage will be in the center of the building. The stage will be the center of much of the entertainment for Family Day, including local bands, a children's Halloween costume contest and other events. Dance and Martial arts demonstrations are scheduled to take place in front of the stage.
