Reservists Round-Up for Breakfast Published Feb. 14, 2013 By 1st Lt. Denise Haeussler 433rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND -- Love was in the air this Valentine's day with country music crooning in the background, as the 13th Annual C-5 Rodeo Round-Up Breakfast kicked off at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Feb. 14. Some Reservists of the 433rd Airlift Wing, who dressed in cowboy attire, feasted on free egg, sausage, and potato burritos, biscuits and gravy; washing them down with juice and coffee. The rodeo breakfast here originated in 2000. It's a spin-off of the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo held at the At&T Center and on Freeman Coliseum grounds in downtown San Antonio where they also serve a free breakfast at the kick-off for the event. ""Part of what makes the Alamo Wing a special place, is our heritage and connection with the local community," said Col. Jeffrey Pennington, 433rd AW commander. "Through events like the Rodeo Breakfast, we fellowship as an organization with community leaders with the same theme as City of San Antonio during the annual Stock Show & Rodeo. I need to get a new hat and a pair of boots!" The breakfast was inside the Cargo Load Training facility from 6 until 8 a.m., and despite the chilly morning, there was a great turn-out. "I go to all of your events," said Mark Frye, a government program manager with the Port Of San Antonio on Kelly Airfield, and also 733rd Training Squadron honorary commander. "It's a wonderful opportunity to get to know more 433rd AW members that I don't know, and catch up with the ones I do know. The biscuits and gravy were delicious." For new honorary commanders, it was a great day for them as well. "This event had a lot of energy and fun, and it's great to interact with Air Force Reservists," said Denise Barkhurst, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Antonio, and the 433rd Aerospace Medical Squadron honorary commander. "I was away from the military for about 15 years, and since I became an honorary commander, I was welcomed back into a family."
