Chief Master Sergeant JONATHAN J. BIRK Chief Master Sergeant Jonathan Birk is the Command Chief of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 433rd Airlift Wing, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Chief Birk leads the enlisted force and advises commanders on matters impacting the enlisted force, such as proper utilization, readiness, professional development, training, and quality of life issues. He ensures the commander's policies are widely publicized and understood by the enlisted force, and serves as the functional manager for all assigned first sergeants. Chief Birk enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves in August 2001. He is a graduate of the Intelligence Operations course in September 2002. His background includes various duties to include Intelligence Analyst Craftsmen, Flight Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, MQ-1 Mission Coordinator, Chief of Intelligence Training, and an inspector with the Wing Inspection Team. Throughout his career, Chief Birk has deployed multiple times to Southwest Asia in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. He has also served on temporary duty at Joint Interagency Task Force South, Key West, Florida and the 163rd Attack Wing, March Air Reserve Base, California. In his civilian capacity, he is a criminal intelligence analyst. Prior to his current position, Chief Birk served as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) to the Joint Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Indo-Pacific Command Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC), Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. He was responsible for advising the JIOC Commander and Command Senior Enlisted Leader on matters of health, morale, welfare, discipline, and utilization of over 1,300 joint forces. He also advocated with Indo-Pacific Command J2 intelligence directorate leaders on total force integration, personnel readiness, training, and force development issues for 127 Air Force individual reservists at five geographically separated detachments.
