Colonel THOMAS F. ALBRECHT

Col. Thomas F. Albrecht is the Group Commander, 433rd Maintenance Group, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He leads over 500 technicians in 25 Air Force specialty codes and is responsible for executing a 2,000 flying hour program for 8 C-5M aircraft valued at over $1.4 billion. He ensures safe aircraft launch, recovery, servicing, maintenance, and inspections. Additionally, Col. Albrecht leads sortie production necessary to support real world, combat coded and humanitarian mission taskings. He is directly responsible for the sortie production necessary to train over 200 C-5M aircrew yearly for the U.S. Air Force. Col. Albrecht also manages an annual budget of approximately $20 million as well as facilities valued at $300 million. He is the senior maintenance advisor responsible for maintaining fleet health for the 433rd Airlift Wing as well as ensuring the daily flying mission is met.

Before assuming command of the 433rd Maintenance Group, Col. Albrecht served as Chief, Operations Division, Force Generation Center (FGC), Robins Air Force Base (AFB), Ga. He oversaw command and control (C2) operations for all Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) off-station training missions and unique missions in execution. He also served as the AFRC Crisis Action Team (CAT) Director, managing all aspects of CAT operations. Col. Albrecht managed a team of 26 personnel, running C2 operations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, supporting nearly 70,000 Air Force Reservists worldwide.


Col. Albrecht entered Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, Texas in January 1987 and later attended Aircraft Armament Training at Lowry AFB, Colo. After graduating in June 1987, he was assigned to Ellsworth AFB, S.D. to load nuclear munitions on the B-1 Bomber. In November 1988, he transferred from active duty to the Air National Guard as a mechanic on the C-5A aircraft at Stewart Air National Guard Base (ANGB), N.Y. He became a Flying Crew Chief Evaluator with over 2,500 flying hours in the C-5A, and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant before ending his enlistment in May 2001.


In June 2001, Col Albrecht received his commission at the Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, Tenn. and became a Maintenance Officer at Stewart ANGB, N.Y. In June 2007, he transitioned to be a Staff Officer at United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) Headquarters, Tampa, Fla. He later attended Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) in residence and after graduating, in July 2014 he was selected as Commander, 442d Maintenance Squadron, Whiteman AFB, Mo. In January 2015, Col. Albrecht accepted an assignment as a Battle Captain for the Joint Staff Logistics Directorate at the Pentagon.
