Colonel William H. Gutermuth is the Commander of the Air Force Reserve Command's 433rd Airlift Wing, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He directs the operations and activities of approximately 2,500 personnel assigned to the wing headquarters and 21 subordinate units. The Alamo Wing is the home for all C-5M Super Galaxy aircrew training.
Col. Gutermuth received his commission through the Air Force Officer Training School program in 1992 and directly entered into the Air Force Reserve following undergraduate pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
He has deployed in support of operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve, Freedom Sentinel, and Arabian Gulf accruing more than 350 combat flying hours.
He has also served as the Chief of Mobilization and Aviation Branches, Headquarters AFRC Force Generation Center, Robins AFB, Ga., where he managed the volunteer battle rhythm and warfighter support for over 70,000 aviation and agile combat support forces and coordinated activation requests to support war and peacetime contingencies as well as national emergencies.
Col. Gutermuth is a command pilot with more than 5,000 hours in various aircraft including the C-5M. Prior to arriving to the Alamo Wing, he was the Commander of the 514th Air Mobility Wing, Joint Base McQuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.
