Colonel MICHELLE E. VAN SICKLE Col. Michelle E. Van Sickle is the Commander of the 433rd Medical Group at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. In this capacity, she serves as the senior medical advisor to the wing commander on medical force strategies, policies, practices and tenets. In addition, she provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for 350 assigned reservists with 31 Air Force Specialty Codes in three reserve medical units: the 433rd Aerospace Medicine Squadron, the 433rd Aeromedical Staging Squadron and the 433rd Medical Squadron, which service 2,500 and 400 tenant personnel. The 433rd MDG provides combat ready forces to enhance force agility and lethality, supporting worldwide missions. Col. Van Sickle was commissioned in 1991. In five years of active duty service, she performed in a number of capacities, including Director of Patient Administration, Chief of Medical Readiness, Director of Inpatient Operations, and Assistant Administrator of Resource Management. She joined the Air Force Reserve in 2003 and has served in a variety of key squadron leadership positions with experience at the group, wing and Numbered Air Force staffs. Positions held include Director for Wing Plans, Programs and Resource Management, Director of Civil Emergency Management, Flight Commander, Senior Administrator, Director for Wing Commander’s Action Group where she was an executive advisor between 4 groups, 20 squadrons and 15 wing staff agencies, Squadron Commander, Director for Fourth Air Force Commander’s Action Group. Prior to her current command assignment, she was the Commander, 914th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Niagara Falls, NY. As commander, she was responsible for the training qualification and combat readiness of 95 personnel to perform worldwide aeromedical evacuation missions on the KC-135, C-17 and C-130 air weapon systems. In 2021, she deployed as Commander, 405th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Ali Al Salem, Kuwait. She led the Squadron to preserve fighting strength in the United States Central Command area of responsibility, providing life-saving patient care for wounded/ill warriors via airlift for intra-theater and inter-theater missions.
