September/October is Hispanic Heritage Month; A time to pay trib
Chief Master Sgt. Gonzalez’s father, Joe S. Gonzalez, Sr. contributions to the city of San Antonio were to two historical sites that are still standing today. One was the Joske’s building located downtown. When Gonzalez Sr. was a welder, he was responsible for some of the Spanish Colonial Revival detail expressed in the decorative ironwork surrounding the building’s name, in the railings, and the first-floor windows designed after the famous Rose Window at Mission San José. The building is now part of the National Register of Historic Places-listed in the City of San Antonio Alamo Plaza Historic District and is also a City of San Antonio local landmark.
