Stepping under the canopy of the Italian booth took attendees straight into an Italian kitchen. The 433rd Airlift Wing hosted the 2006 Mini Folklife Festival. The festival featured tastes and sounds from around the world including; Lebanon, Mexico, Germany, Hawaii and Native American cultures. Reservists from the 433rd Airlift Wing represent a broad array of cultural backgrounds. Staff Sgt. Manuel Camacho, a small arms instructor with the 433rd Security Forces Squadron inspects a weapon after a qualifications course. Lt. Col. Mario Pastrano, a Health Services Administrator with the 433rd Airlift Wing, took some time on deployment day to explain to local reporters what he and his people will be responsible for during thier deployment. The Reservists will operate the Casualty Aeormedical Staging Facility at Balad AB, Iraq. It will be thier primary responsability to get the wounded out of Iraq and on to Germany or the US for more definitive care. Lt. Col. Christine Hassen, a flight nurse with the 433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron was one of the volunteers to went to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She and other members of the 433rd AES set up a medical staging facility inside the Louis Armstrong International Airport. The 433rd AES, with help from AES squadrons throughout the Reserve, Guard and active-duty Air Force, transported almost 2,000 patients out to medical facilities who could provide the care New Orleans could no longer give.
