New ‘Green’ HQ’s building nears completion
The new $7.4 million 433rd Headquarters Building, which is scheduled to open in late summer, was built according to standards established by the U.S. Green Building Council based in Washington, D.C. The design standard called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED, is designed to maximize energy efficiency and make the most of renewable, sustainable resources such as low-flow plumbing fixtures and zero or drought tolerant landscaping. Last enlisted member from Vietnam War retires from Alamo Wing
Master Sergeant Bob Kane, the last enlisted member from the 433rd Airlift Wing to serve in the Vietnam War, retired on Saturday, Jan. 7 from the Air Force Reserve. Kane joined the Air Force in August 1970 and was a C-130 Hercules mechanic during the conflict. Alamo Wing Airman named one of 12 outstanding Airmen of 2010
Technical Sgt. Ricardo Chavez cradles the large trophy presented to him as the Air Force Reserve Command Outstanding NCO for 2010. He subsequently was named one of the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the year for 2010 at the Air Force level. Air Force Reserve Command honored its Outstanding Airmen of 2010 during an awards banquet at Kissimmee, Fla., Aug. 16, 2011.Chavez is a master military training instructor and a reservist with the 433rd Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, which now forms part of Joint Base San Antonio. Chavez serves fulltime on an Active Guard and Reserve tour of duty as the 737th Training Support Squadron unit training manager. The unit is Air Force basic military training's largest squadron with more than 150 people. Besides his MTI duties, Chavez is responsible for the overall management of the unit's training program. Shown here is the first-place-winning painting of the 433rd Airlift Wing Jay Leno Art Contest created by Army 1st Lt. Kyle Hermanson, from the 69th Air Defense Brigade at Ft. Hood, Texas. The 2010 Raincross Trophy marks the second time the Alamo Wing has been presented the prestigious award. The Raincross Trophy has been in existence for 13 years and recognizes the work of aircrews assigned to wings under the 4th Air Force flag who display exceptional airmanship during an individual mission or sustained operations. The picture is of fire fighter Rosario Selva. Tech. Sgt. Selva was an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician with the 32nd Aeromedical Evacuation Group, now the 433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.
